Notice and Update from the Lands, Estates and Membership office of the Mohawk Council of Kanehsatake

Amanda Simon, Certified Lands, Estates and Membership Manager for the Mohawk Council of Kanehsatake will be on vacation on the following dates:  Monday July 27th to Friday July 31st, 2020 and Monday August 3rd to August 7th, 2020 inclusively.

Please call Paige O’Brien for any questions or land transfers during these two weeks.  Please note that any membership questions and verifications will have to wait until the return of Amanda Simon.

Please note that the Lands, Estates and Membership office of the Mohawk Council of Kanehsatake remain working from home.

Please note that the offices of the Indigenous Services remain closed.

Following a meeting with ISC yesterday, it was confirmed that they are now receiving and treating mail at their regional office.

Land transfers:

Land transfers are being effectuated by the lands office at the MCK and will now be sent to ISC via scanned email, and original to follow to their regional office in Quebec City.  It is important to note that due to the continued closure transfer registrations and issuance of Oka Letters will be delayed.

Estate Transfers:

Following a meeting with ISC yesterday, the estates team was absent.  I am disappointed to report that I have been unable to obtain information or receive responses to my requests for estate transfers.  I am making every effort to rectify this issue and have made my concerns known to ISC headquarters.  Please stay tuned for more updates.

Membership (Indian Registration): Exerpt taken from ISC website:

“COVID-19: Office closures

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all Indigenous Services Canada offices for Indian status and secure status card applications will be closed until further notice.

  • To apply by mail, visit Are you applying for Indian status or How to apply for a status card. Processing times, including return of original documents, are delayed.
  • Indian status does not expire. Your registration number confirms your status and can be used to access some services and programs.
  • During this time, service providers should accept status cards or Temporary Confirmation of Registration Documents (TCRDs), with identification, even if the renewal or expiry date has passed, until offices re-open.”

My office will be resuming their role in completing applications for registration, renewals and guarantor declarations and the signing of photos.

August 12th, 2020 will mark the date I will be resuming treating membership applications.  Please make sure you call my cell to make an appointment.

Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Best Regards

Amanda Simon
